The Bed

This queen-size bed is from Brittany in France and dates from about 1870. It is elaborately carved oak. In the late 19th century, Brittany was thought of as somewhat exotic (Paul Gaugin had made his home there and many other artists thrived in the region) and the carving strongly reflects that image.
