Royal BC Museum

The museum is beside Victoria's Inner Harbour just a 10 minute walk from Albion Manor.  It sits between the Empress Hotel and the Legislature Buildings and right beside one of the most important parks in Victoria, Thunderbird Park.  The museum was actually founded 6 years before Albion Manor was built and when you consider that Albion is the second oldest house in Victoria, that’s pretty old.

We had Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth drop by in 1987 to bestow the ‘Royal’ title.  Ta.

Royal BC Museum- Totems

The museum consists of three principle permanent galleries: modern history, natural history, and local First Nations’ history. There are over 7 million objects in the museum’s collections (imagine the dusting).  In addition to the permanent collections, the museum also hosts a series of temporary exhibits, all of which have been outstanding.  Some of the recent ones are RMS Titanic, Leonardo da Vinci, Egyptian artifacts, and Genghis Khan, the Vikings. In addition, there is an IMAX theatre in the same building and you can get tickets to both.

Royal BC Museum- Woolly Mammoth

PS.  When we were working in the theatre way back when, Don's friends Murray Skuce built the woolly mammoth.
